Triple Treats at Hunting Raven
Hungry young readers had triple treats at Hunting Raven Bookshop during March.
Double helpings were on offer at Hunting Raven on Saturday 13 March when children’s author Lily Hyde visited to read from and sign her books Dream Land and Riding Icarus . Lily is a writer and journalist based in London and the Ukraine, her life-long fascination with Russian fairy tales and a more recent interest in the people of Crimea have resulted in these two magical books. We were delighted to welcome Lily to Hunting Raven; we and our young customers and their parents enjoyed talking to Lily and listening to her read extracts from her books.
Also on Saturday 13 March, newly published children’s author Kate Maryon launched her first book Shine at La Strada Café in Cheap Street. Kate was joined by many enthusiastic young readers who made Frome shine by wearing something shiny to the launch! The story aimed at girls aged 9+ was on sale during the day at Hunting Raven. As Frome’s only independent bookshop, we are always very keen to support local authors.
On Saturday 20 March local author Emma Craigie signed copies of her new book Chocolate Cake with Hitler at Hunting Raven Bookshop. The book gives a child’s view of the collapse of the Nazi regime. It tells the story of Helga Goebbels, the twelve year old daughter of Hitler’s propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, and her younger brother and sisters who were taken by their parents into Hitler’s bunker at the end of World War II. The book has received excellent reviews in the national press and is already reprinting. It is suitable for teenagers and adults. Emma is doing a series of talks at local schools and book groups.
